What motivates me?

There has always been an inherent curiosity about life and who I am on the inside. That curiosity has driven me to explore the world beyond my limitations and fears. To face my fears and, in doing so, see myself grow through physical exertion but also by overcoming mental preconceptions about myself. I want to step out of my comfort zone and into the adventure of life beyond the next horizon. To dare is to win in and of itself.

I’ve spent much of my free time exploring new places. This has also been linked to training and self-development at various stages understanding myself and realizing that the body is a tool for the inner self, which is greater than life itself. It might sound grandiose, but why downplay one’s insights?  Self-development, curiosity, experiencing nature, and sharing my adventures with others are my main motivations and what drives me.

About Image

No adventure is perfect, that´s what makes it a perfect adventure.

There is a strong connection between preparation, expectations, and results. Through preparation, you can influence both your expectations and your results. Preparation is an important part of my adventures. But I don’t want my preparation to inflate my expectations. That’s why it’s good to ask myself what my expectations are and use them to prepare myself properly. Being sufficiently prepared and in balance with my expectations gives me the confidence to handle the unexpected, which almost always pops up when it’s a great adventure.

I discover new adventures when I let my curiosity and intuition guide the way forward. This has led me to meet people who pave the way toward self-development through both small and big adventures! My outlook on life has changed as I’ve challenged my preconceptions and dared to explore what happens when I step outside my comfort zone. This has led me to amazing insights, adventures that I’m sharing here. Maybe you’ll feel inspired to do something you’ve been longing for but don’t know how to start?

Making my way out of my comfort zone

One way for me to grow is to dare to follow my intuition when I’m curious about something. This has led me to broaden my horizons and let the people and events that have drawn me in guide the way to the next step. When you’re around someone who is passionate about whatever they do, it feels real and genuine. Such encounters with passionate people are motivating and insightful. You’re inspired by the joy they show for their passion. By being receptive and humble, you can take big strides forward in your own development through such encounters.

Since discovering mountain hiking nearly 15 years ago, I’ve been able to expand the interest in nature that I’ve had since I was a child. I’ve always loved photography and have owned a long line of cameras with which I’ve tried to capture moments. On my mountain hikes, photography has been part of a kind of meditation. A way to enjoy the moment and bring those happy memories home with me. For me, it was also a way to fully appreciate the beauty of the moment and stay completely focused. I can lose track of time when I’m in nature, looking at the world through my camera lens.

From being a relative beginner in the mountains, several years of various adventures have given me the experience to feel at home both in the mountains and in the forest. Everyone has to start somewhere, and that goes for all activities. My hikes and adventures have taken place in several different countries, many of which have been in Norway, which I find absolutely beautiful. I’ve also gone hiking in Scotland, Spain, and of course in Sweden as well, but also in Nepal and Bali in Indonesia. I enjoy planning for my upcoming adventures and have often looked forward to them for quite a while as I make my preparations, both in terms of planning and training.

A few years ago, I took part in a guided ski expedition for the first time. It marked the beginning of a transformative period. I allowed myself to face a challenge that had held a “grip” on me since my youth and my time in military service: the cold. This expedition was an eight-day winter trek by sled and skis in Sarek National Park in northern Sweden. You can read about it in my adventures. After that trip, I realized just how adaptable the body is. I became more curious about the cold; what had previously kept me from swimming outdoors even in the summer wasn’t so scary anymore, and that was just the beginning of my journey into cold exposure training. Now, a few years later, I handle the cold in a way that many people find extreme. I can be outside in sub-zero temperatures in shorts and a tank top for several hours. But it took several steps before I got there.

I happened to stumble upon a newly opened wellness center, Vitality LAB, in the fall of 2023. Cryotherapy was now available in Gothenburg. As it turned out, I was one of the first people to go there and try this method. You stand in shorts, a hat, and socks, wearing flip-flops, and dance to music at -87°C. I stand in the cryochamber for 5 minutes, but at first, you gradually increase the exposure time from shorter durations. For me, it started with four included visits to this chamber. Now, a few years later, I’ve done over a hundred sessions in the cryochamber, and it has become one of the cornerstones of my journey toward health and well-being through cold. At the same time, I began to explore what it was like to wear lighter clothing in the fall and winter. Being outside in a tank top and shorts in increasingly colder weather did me good. I, who had previously often been out in the woods camping, also changed my habits and felt drawn to forest bathing and cold baths. Something that had been completely unthinkable before now gave me new strength. I used to be cold all the time, but now I felt a sense of calm and peace in my body associated with the cold. My attitude had changed, and my body followed suit, tolerating the cold better and better.

I’m fascinated by how the mind can take control of the body and turn discomfort into well-being. There are areas in everyone’s life that feel uncomfortable just thinking about them, but with a little practice, that discomfort can be transformed into confidence, giving you a sense of self-assurance you never imagined before. For example, when I go sport climbing, I’ve trained myself to have full control over my fear of heights. Or when I’ve challenged myself with the cold and taken control of how the body can turn the fear of cold into tremendous strength.

My next step was into freediving, which involves diving on a single breath. With that, a whole new world opened up to me. Many people would instinctively feel that holding your breath and diving deep is dangerous and scary. But in that single breath and in realizing that breath-holding is a malleable force I was able to experience a sense of security and calm even beneath the surface. It marked the beginning of a new milestone in my personal development. It all started in Bali, where I had the chance to learn from an incredibly inspiring person in a stunning marine environment. You can read about that adventure, which I describe separately, as well. In freediving, relaxation and body awareness are the most important factors; the more you can relax, the better you dive, and the effort can transform into a meditative state of feeling at one with the elements in the water.

My next journey of self-discovery would turn out to be what I would later describe as a pilgrimage. It stemmed from a curiosity about the mystery surrounding Egypt and its history. What ultimately “drew me” there was something more than just the megalithic architecture and the rich culture. It was a curiosity about the inherent energy that each and every one of us possesses. It has left its mark in various creations all around us in the world. I traveled in the footsteps of mysticism and metaphysics with a group of people who came to influence me just as much as the places we visited. From the Giza Plateau, through the Pyramids, Luxor, Karnak, and Aswan, through Egypt’s countless temples and monuments. You can follow along here.

I ended last year by attending Wim Hof’s Winter Expedition in Åre. It was an extreme week of ice baths and mountain hikes every day. There was a strong focus on the power of breathing and how to cope with the cold and trigger healing processes. By the spring of 2025, I had already tried a “Wim Hof Advanced Weekend” with instructors trained in Wim’s method. With that boost behind me and the training I’d done on my own beforehand, I was ready to put myself to a real mental test with Wim himself and other participants in an extreme environment. I was interviewed by EPOCH TIMES ahead of this, and you can read about it and my big adventure here.
